Gabrielle von Wäre

Gabrielle von Wäre

Born in Rochester New York, Gabrielle Von Wäre has been continuously studying and performing over three decades. First encouraged by her mother, she began training with ballet and moved onto studying modern jazz and contemporary. She honed her skills in Istanbul Turkey, where she lived for 12 years. This is where she started her research with remastering and deconstructing the theory behind western lyrical dance, creating the phrase “physical lyricist” to describe the scope of movement. During this time she performed in numerous European productions, one of them being She by Dani Brown, performed at Kampnagel in Hamburg.

Gabrielle has now made Berlin her home and has been active on the dance scene exploring the world of dance as well as the visual art world and video dance. One of her first appearances in Berlin, was in Phase Shifting produced by Jermey Shaw, which premiered at the Pompidou in Paris, France. Since then, she has collaborated and performed with a host of artists in Berlin. Her latest works center on the voice and how the body resonates it’s sound, along with her own personal work focusing around fascia: a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ. Gabrielle believes. This is where pain of past trauma can exist. Ancestral Fascia will be an ongoing focus point for her for the years to come.
