Lahya Aukongo

Lahya Aukongo is a Black and intersectionally interwoven artist, author, poet, curator, multiplier, singer, activist, workshop teamer, and photographer. Her social realities are reflected in all her art. Because everything Lahya does is political and private. Since 2014, Lahya has curated and hosted the monthly spoken word event series One World Poetry Night in Berlin. Lahya is part of the soulful acoustic duo Lahya & Jokaa. In 2009, Lahya published the autobiography Kalungas Kind. In 2018, the book Buchstabengefühle – eine poetische Einmischung (Letter Feelings – A Poetic Intervention) hit bookstores. Lahya’s content touches on privilege, healing, individual and collective self-love and vulnerability, as well as social responsibility.

At Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Lahya Aukongo participated as a poet in the Pepperpot podium jam session, in the reading Alltäglich Widerspenstig (Everyday Rebellious) as part of the Postcolonial Poly Perspectives festival, in the spoken word evening Even At The Risk, and as a panelist in the discussion event Festivity for Every Body, as part of the Black Berlin Black – Festivity festival.
