Lois Alexander is a dancer and choreographer based in Berlin. She graduated from The Juilliard School in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and has since worked with choreographers and directors such as Stijn, Celis, Christoph Winkler, Romeo Castellucci, Susanne Linke and Zufit Simon.
In her own choreography, Lois draws inspiration from what Tina Campt describes as „textured identities“. Her aim is to use dance and performance to articulate an in-between space and state of migration from a Black feminist perspective. Her solo choreography Neptune was created in oproduction by ICK Artist Space and Sophiensäle Berlin, funded by the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst K. Lois was selected as one of the Aerowaves Twenty21 artists for her performance in Neptune and is touring internationally with this piece. In 2021 Lois made two works for the canvas: Black Venus and Yeye. Black Venus was commissioned by MM Praxis as part of Ecology of Attention. Yeye is a dance film funded by Berliner Senat für Kultur und Europa and co-produced with Sophiensäle. The premiere of Yeye took place at Hackesche Höfe Kino Berlin.
At Ballhaus Naunynstraße Lois Alexander performed in Space Creators, directed by Jasco Viefhues (2019) and Eventually Causing the Shake (2023), her first solo work here.
