Man Teng Nip

Man Teng Nip is a multidisciplinary set designer, costume designer, and lighting designer from Macau. Based in Berlin and she works as a freelance artist in theater and film. In 2009, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Scenography from the Taipei National University of the Arts and completed a Master’s degree in Stage Design at the Universität der Künste Berlin in 2020.
From 2009 to 2012, she was a lecturer at the School of Drama of the Macao Conservatory. She has designed sets, costumes, and lighting for numerous productions, including works for the Macau Arts Festival, Hiu Kok Theatre, and the collective Comuna de Pedra.
Nip’s artistic research focuses on the tension between animate and inanimate bodies, as well as the relationship between humans and nature. She questions the dynamic interplay between the natural and the human-controlled world. In 2024, her work on the project A Few Words on the Clusters with the collective Comuna de Pedra marked an important step in her artistic practice, where she took on multiple tasks for the first time: concept, direction, and acting. The work deals with the memory of the people in the Macau community—with the difference to the current situation becoming sharply apparent. For Nip, this was a significant opportunity to bring together her various skills and perspectives.

At Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Nip is involved in the Extended Cooperation Vol. I workshop as a stage and costume designer and is responsible for the costumes for Gira, the portrait performance by Natasha Vergilio.
