After studying architecture, Matthias Werner worked as an assistant stage designer at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz Berlin, the Theater Nordhausen and the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken. Since 2004 he has been designing his own sets and costumes and has worked with Anna Bergmann (Leonce und Lena at Schauspielhaus Bochum and Madame Butterfly at Staatstheater Oldenburg), Helena Waldmann (Crash in Budapest), Jan Neumann (Amazonas at Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Frey at Schauspiel Stuttgart, invited to Heidelberger Stückemarkt 2012) and Hendrik Müller (Mass at Theater an der Wien and Cardasfürstin in Schwerin), among others. In addition, he designs sets for film productions.
