Senny Camara grew up in Tattaguine in western Senegal with her grandmother, who raised her in the traditions of the Serer people. As a result, she became familiar with her country’s musical heritage at an early age: with the songs of the Ndeup, a ritual practiced by the Lébou community, but also with the songs of musical greats such as Yandé Codou Sène and others.

Senny Camara is one of the few female kora players in the world, as the instrument is traditionally reserved for men. She studied kora at the Dakar Conservatory. She also learned other traditional instruments such as the balafon and ngonim, as well as guitar and piano.

In the early 2000s, Senny moved to France. At the Saint-Denis Conservatory, she was introduced to Celtic music and expanded her repertoire to include the Celtic harp, the Brazilian cavaquinho, the Lithuanian kantele, and the cello. Her studies were followed by a variety of encounters with international artists; since 2019, she has been part of O’Sisters, a group of female musicians associated with DJ and producer Missill. In 2020, Senny Camara released her first EP, Boolo, followed four years later by her first album, YÉNÉ.

As part of the Black Berlin Black – Festivity festival, she will give her first concert at Ballhaus Naunynstraße together with musician Bocar Cissokho.
