Shira Wachsmann (born 1984 in Tel Aviv) studied in Berlin at the Weißensee School of Art. Her work shows the multi-layered relationships and ideas of „land“. The land as earth, land as place, land as a habitat of natural, but also as a cultural habitat. She uses mainly natural materials such as earth, metal, charcoal, straw and plants and forms that refer to sanctuaries and rituals. Wachsmann confronts the viewer with biblical and philosophical ideas and, through them, addresses the concept Homeland and the emergence of identity.
