Syl Ko is an independent researcher based in Portland, Maine (US). She studied philosophy at San Francisco State University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a focus on history of philosophy, social ontology, and animal ethics. Her current work focuses on the intersection of decolonial thought and animal ethics. Ko is a co-author of Aphro-ism: Essays on Pop Culture, Feminism, and Black Veganism (2017). She is also the producer of the forthcoming educational video series, The Black Veganism Memoirs (July 2019), which explores the theory of Black Veganism, a position which argues for an animal ethic from the perspective of race as opposed to species considerations.
