Valéria Araújo

Valéria Araújo is an artist, architect and filmmaker. She started her artistic practice as a resident artist at the „Núcleo do Dirceu”. She studied expanded cinema at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig(HGB) and graduated as Meisterschülerin of Clemens von Wedemeyer and Mareike Bernien in 2024.

The artist ́s works reframes artistic and historical research through a performative act. This transformative gesture take places in the body, in the use of the media, and extents into the space. The viewer is invited to experience a temporality which hegemonic narratives are questioned.

An important part of her recent artistic practice involves collaborations with artist Jota Mombaça: West Den Haag (2025), MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (2025), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (2019), and Hebbel am Ufer (2019).

Throughout the years her work has been displayed in meaningful art spaces: after the butcher- exhibition space for contemporary art and social issues (2024), the Dresden State Art Collections (2023), European Media Art Festival (2023), Gewandhaus Orchestra (2022), Museum of City History Leipzig (2021).

At the Ballhaus Naunystraße, Valéria Araújo was responsible for the stage design for Gira, the portrait performance by Natasha Vergilio.
