Vernesa Berbo was born in Priboj in the former Yugoslavia. From 1987 to 1991 she studied at the State Academy of Dramatic Arts in Sarajevo with Emir Kusturica, among others. She acted and sang in various theaters. In 1992 she fled from the war to Berlin and performed in Berlin theaters; among others Gripstheater, Ufa-Theater, Theater Strahl. She made her television debut in 1997 in the TV production Lea Katz – Die Kriminalpsychologin: Einer von uns. Berbo regularly appears on stage as a singer with her group Amala. In 2007, the play Landschaften – Synchronisation der Fluchtwege (Landscapes – Synchronization of Escape Routes) by and with Branko Simic, Vernesa Berbo and Jons Vukorep was shown as part of the festival beyond belonging at Hebbel am Ufer. She can currently be seen at the Maxim Gorki Theater in the production Common Ground by Yael Ronen.
