Ein transkultureller Newroz-Abend kuratiert von İlker Abay
Newroz, Nowruz, Nooruz, Navrez, Mevris, Navriz… many different spellings of the same word, which has the same meaning in every language: new day. A new day that symbolises many things: joy in anticipation of approaching spring and hope for a new future after a long winter. Millions of people all over the world wear their best clothes on this day, cook the most delicious food and dance with one another to celebrate life. There are countless traditions tied to it: from colourful eggs to the Haft Seen table arrangement, from Kaveh the Blacksmith to the smelting of the mountain Ergenekon, from Easter Water to jumping over the fire. Fire is the symbol of resistance against repressive structures and political oppression but also represents the courage it takes to make a fresh start.
Collaborating with various artists, İlker Abay sparks a fire which brings back to life old myths and stories that have just been born.
