Everyday I´m çapuling
Found Footage Film by Martina Priessner
The curator and filmmaker Martina Priessner (Wir sitzen im Süden) is currently living in Istanbul. After the first wave of media attention has subsided, she now takes a look back at the events and protests around Gezi Park this past summer, and in doing so, uses found footage material which was uploaded to the internet by countless activists. Penguin cartoons, ‘standing men’ and beating saucepans as a form of protest, a myriad of graffiti, photos and songs: the film conveys insights into the diversity of the protest movement, its disruptions and contradictions. Are the protests a momentary phenomenon or actually a new chapter in Turkey’s journey to democratic shores? What role does humour play as a “weapon” to transport certain messages?
