Halbstarke Halbgötter
by Tuğsal Moğul
With the play Halbstarke Halbgötter (Rowdy Doctors), the physician, actor and director Tuğsal Moğul brings stories from intensive-care medicine to the stage. Four actors, dressed as doctors in scrubs, dissect their lives with precise incisions. They talk about everyday occurrences which leave the audience perplexed: about the hustle and bustle between patient’s beds and operating table, swiftly made medical decisions and urgent ethical issues; about the question of life and death becoming a routine but also about highly concentrated rituals that are almost mythical. They talk about lost dreams and the memory of the Hippocratic oath, about hope and a profound belief in human beings. Moğul, himself an anaesthetist and emergency physician, combines the atmospheric scenes to create a collage which is at the same time poetic and entertaining as well as thought-provoking.
