Helon Habila: Oil on water

Helon Habila’s novel Oil on Water deals with the criminal environmental pollution of the Nigerian Delta, which, according to estimates, has been polluted by more than two million tons of crude oil in the past 50 years. Helon Habila, born in 1967 in Nigeria, is a journalist and writer. His first literary work, Waiting for an Angel, won the Caine Prize for African Writing and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Novel. The German translation of Habila’s third novel, Oil on Water (Öl auf Wasser), was published in 2012 by Wunderhorn Verlag. Habila will be in Berlin until July 2014 as a fellowship holder of the DAAD‘s Berliner Künstlerprogramm.
