Konzert: Amewu
With Amewu, DJ Werd and Trommel Tobi
Four years ago, Amewu’s debut album Entwicklungshilfe (development aid) was released. Since then, the Berlin artist has made his mark in the rap scene and by now is regarded as one of the best live MC’s in Germany. In 2012 Amewu upped the ante with his second album Leidkultur (dominant/suffering culture), impressing his listeners with his reflective, personal and political lyrics addressing the state of the world, communicating deep feelings and demanding change. The ability and the need to make a change, despite being in need of change oneself, is one of the principles the rapper adheres to. In every one of Amewu’s songs it becomes clear that he takes his time fine-tuning his lyrics. The content is important to him while the form is only the wrapping paper.
Even so, the speed at which Amewu delivers his lyrics has become one of the rapper’s trademarks. On his second album he maintains his high-level technical excellence, however, he no longer raps his anger at the world to the heavens in double time, but expresses a very personal view of himself and his environment ‒ still shaped by anger but also by a lot of self-reflection.
Amewu evolved within the context of the Berlin-based hip-hop label Edit.
A specialty of Amewu’s concerts are his extended a capella performances and speeches where he involves the audience.
