LOOKING BACK

A concert with Biliana Voutchkova and Eurico Ferreira Mathias

Two musicians, two universes, two different contexts and life stories, one first encounter.

Contemporary and classic pieces, conceived as solos and duets, are interwoven with one another for this recital for violin and cello. Performers Biliana Voutchkova and Eurico Ferreira Mathias’ personal histories come together and their initial encounter becomes manifest in the versatile and powerful arrangement of the concert. Featured are Saunders’ Hauch premiering in Berlin, Schnittke’s Stille Musik, a selection of Telemann’s Six Canonic Sonatas and debut performances of works by Voutchkova/Mathias.

Biliana Voutchkova works as a soloist with renowned ensembles such as the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, the Splitter Orchester and Zeitkratzer. She is committed to performing and composing primarily 20th-century classical music. She experiments with sound and is an artist with a very strong individual voice. The cellist and composer Eurico Ferreira Mathias has played in several orchestras and ensembles in São Paulo. He lives in Berlin and among other things is involved in projects focusing on electro sounds and contemporary Brazilian music.
