akademie der autodidakten
Which filter are you using today? To face the world out there or inside yourself? The true self doesn’t exist. But the false one doesn’t either. Where does manipulation begin?
In some way or other all of us tell lies ‒ out of necessity, self-interest, politeness, hope or just for fun. A lie has no feet but all the more faces. In social exchange, in digital society, in our relationships with each other and with ourselves.
But there is a lot to learn about lying. A boot camp, game show and journey of self-discovery, Love Lies is at the same time a promise and a demand. Once you have qualified, you have arrived in a sparkling arena of manipulation ‒ here everyone outdoes each other with lies. How far will they go? In front of the audience’s eyes they must give the most convincing performance.
Lügen haben keine Beine (A lie has no feet) is a performative, cinematic and musical engagement with lying and the (de-)construction of truth. In collaboration with the author and game master Reihaneh Youzbashi Dizaji, the young post-migrant protagonists of akademie der autodidakten haveconfronted themselves with their own tall tales. The result is a fake reality show, a competition for the crown of illusion. Brutally false and unsparingly frank ‒ but that is also only part of the truth.
