BUSY BODIES - ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL BERLIN 2017
The globalized system of the care economy generates its growing profits mainly from the hard and badly-paid work of migrants. “Honey and Money” documents the long working hours of Filipino care workers in an old people´s home in Taipei. The director follows them for a decade, also during their holidays back home and with interest in their transnational family life. She contrasts images of everyday routines with poems about inner conflicts and dreams, adding another poetic meta level to this reverent portrait. This respect also derives from the fact that the director´s grandma is one of the residents in the old people´s home shown in the film.
