Performance, 27 March: public discussion with Renata Carvalho and Jo Clifford (in Portuguese and English with simultaneous translation).

What if Jesus lived today and were a transvestite?

This play combines the monologue with storytelling in the context of a ritual, transporting Jesus into the present in the body of a transvestite. Well-known Bible stories are retold from a current viewpoint, creating an engagement with the issues of oppression and intolerance trans* and other minoritised groups are subjected to.

The performance provides food for thought regarding these social issues, at the same time conveying a message of love, forgiveness and acceptance. Trans* identity is a key element of the play aimed at offering a different perspective of stigmatised and marginalised identities.
