Sesperado – Revolution of Color

akademie der autodidakten

Sesperado is brave, a revolutionary nerd, a lyrical guerilla fighter from the real Wedding and leader of the R.O.C., the Revolution of Color. Because he’s tired of the racism he’s confronted with day in, day out at university, with friends, or on the underground train. In conjunction with family and friends he exposes the unintentional hilarity of the omnipresent everyday racism and develops strategies of resistance that are completely non-violent but instead come with a lot of knowledge and humour. The R.O.C. is unstoppable, it will unite all people of color and introduce the pre-revolutionary era of the Nation of Color.

Sesperado ‒ Revolution of Color is based on the novel Kara Günlük ‒ Die geheimen Tagebücher des Sesperado! (Kara Günlük ‒ The Secret Diaries of Sesperado!) by Mutlu Ergün-Hamaz. While accompanying the main character, the young Sesperado, in his day-to-day life in Berlin that is shaped by racism, this audacious political satire provides all like-minded people with an instruction for resistance. With his lyrical guerilla strategies and the support of his friends, Sesperado sets off for the uprising.

In collaboration with the two theatre experts Murat Dikenci and Hasan H. Taşgin and within the framework of akademie der autodidakten, approximately 20 young post-migrants and people of color try out the different approaches and tactics up to the final revolution of color on Ballhaus Naunynstraße’s stage. Condensed by their personal experiences and strategies relating to everyday racism, transformed into music, dance, video, and performance, it is their revolutionary journey the protagonists take us along on.

All power to the people!
