After the Last Sky
"Where will we go after the last frontier? Where will the birds fly after the last sky?" – Mahmoud Darwish, 2003
After the last sky is the first interdisciplinary and international festival in Germany that makes the multifaceted practice of contemporary Palestinian artists tangible. With theater, film, performance, panels, literature, spoken word, staged readings, music and dance, the festival is dedicated to the artistic diversity of Palestinian narratives and visions while building bridges to global contexts of colonization, flight, resistance and empowerment. As part of the festival, the group exhibition Questioning the Chroma-Key Principle interrogates politics of seeing and traces the intersections between the visible and the invisible in the Palestinian context, beyond dominant regimes of visibility.
After the last sky is a continuation of the curatorial practice of Ballhaus Naunynstraße, which is known for creating access to post-migrant and post-colonial realities of life. The festival inspires new perspectives on how to talk about Palestinian realities in Germany today. The artistic inter- ventions create spaces of visibility and encourage reconstructing the past, rethinking the present and imagining a possible future together.
During the four-week festival, which opens the season at Ballhaus Naunynstraße on September 9. musicians Sanaa Moussa, Kamilya Jubran, Jowan Safadi, Katibeh5, artists Hani Zurob, Larissa Sansour, Kamal Al Jafari, Yazan Khalili, Jumana Manna and Steve Sabella, as well as the performers of the dance ensemble Sareyyet from Ramallah and the writer Adania Shibli - among many other artistic contributions.
In audience talks, panel discussions and workshops, the Berlin audience is invited to enter into a lively exchange with international artists and their works.
