Permanente Beunruhigung - Internationales Performancefestival

International Performance Festival

Unrest. Times in which the fractures of a society become more visible. Times in which mistrust and rejection fragment discourses and relationships. What does this do to us? How do we deal with it? Withdrawing to find peace is one way. For whom? If we don't have this privilege of retreat and unobtrusiveness in terms of the norm, then what? Political events, social repression, everyday attacks - sometimes, in this social climate, all it takes is a look, a touch, and everything tenses, the body spasms. To regain balance requires a balancing movement, its own torque, a counter-impulse. This is the beginning of the choreography, the composition, the performance.

With the international festival Permanente Beunruhigung we celebrate: 10 years of postmigrant theater at Ballhaus Naunynstraße! Since its inauguration by Shermin Langhoff, it has derived its artistic innovative power from disquiet, from questioning the usual discourses. In accordance with the profile of the house, we have invited international and Berlin artists* who work interdisciplinarily on the topics of queerness, feminism, Black Lives, diaspora, postcolonialism, Afrofuturism to an encounter. Professionals of their disciplines and seismographers of social fault lines come together for a unique artistic challenge: Two days of rehearsals in a constellation that has never been attempted before; and on the third and fourth days, the work will be performed. The focus is on encounter and trust - on the part of the perfomers, the house, the audience; as well as the special performative and thematic energy that arises from such an intensified encounter.

23 artists* from Amsterdam, Bangalore, Berlin, Belo Horizonte, Cartagena de Indias, The Hague, Cairo, Kampala, Lomé, Porto Alegre, São Paulo expose themselves in five constellations to the disquiet of the format, the encounter and the open working process. In two days each, they seek translocal cooperation, the intimacy of the artistic working relationship, the common and their goal. Because that is the challenge Permanente Beunruhigung: to overcome one's own routine for a common gravitation, to then go with force into the public, for a temporary or lasting disquiet.

The international performance festival Permanente Beunruhigung is the culmination of a series that began in spring 2017. Vol. I - IV. brought immersive shows over four weekends featuring Bishop Black (performer), Sofia Borges (musician), Fritz Helder (performer, musician), Raphael Hillebrand (dancer), Mmakgosi Kgabi (performer, dancer), Infinite Livez (DJ), Eurico Ferreira Mathias (cellist, composer), Nasheeka Nedsreal (dancer), Silvia Ospina (dancer), Zé de Paiva (dancer, video artist), Ricardo de Paula (dancer, choreographer), Juliana Piquero (performer, dancer), Isabel Gonzalez Toro (musician), Kenny Wesley (singer) and Dusty Whistles (posthumous drag performer).

Ballhaus Naunynstraße is now celebrating its 10th anniversary as a post-migrant theater with a festival of translocal orientation - a festival of the unpredictable and autonomy in the absence of dramaturgical control instances.

Three new shows are being created: Disquiet 1 with Dessa Ganda (writer, performer), Tanisha Vicky Germain (filmmaker, activist), Ana Pi (choreographer, visual artist), TRVΛNIΛ (poet, singer). Disquiet 2 with Quinsy Gario (poet, performance artist), Daniel Lima (artist, curator, editor, scientist), Lobadys Pérez (dancer, choreographer), meLê yamomo (sound and performance artist, scientist). Disquiet 3 with Deepika Arwind (performer, theater maker, writer), Linda Nabasa (actress, writer), Shaymaa Shoukry (choreographer, performer), Biliana Voutchkova (musician, composer, performer).

The framework of the festival also offers the opportunity to revisit and rework two performances, results of the first series of encounters: UBUNTU with Eurico Ferreira Mathias, Nasheeka Nedsreal, Zé de Paiva, Ricardo de Paula and Your Devices with Bishop Black, Fritz Helder, Mmakgosi Kgabi, Dusty Whistles.
