Daniel Morais dos Santos Bruss is a freelance film director, producer, author and dramaturg. Born in Campina Grande and raised in Johannesburg, his biography is itself characterized by transcultural experiences – an element that is also reflected in his artistic work.

His work straddles the border between fiction and documentary. He is interested in narratives that renegotiate identity, migration and belonging. At the heart of his work is the question of how social power relations and suppressed perspectives can be made visible through associative, often fragmentary narrative forms. He works on various interdisciplinary projects in the fields of film, theater and text – often in collaborative processes that bring different perspectives into conversation with each other.

His first play Wer ist uns? premiered at the Junges Theater an der Ruhr in 2021.

At the Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Daniel Morais dos Santos Bruss was part of the Extended Cooperation theater workshop as a dramaturg. The production developed there has been part of the repertoire since fall 2025 under the title Your Baggage Unattended.
