Born and raised in Angola, Manuela Sambo came to study in the former GDR in 1984, where she began her artistic work parallel to her studies in German language and literature. The artist deals with questions of the reception of African art in Europe and of European art in Africa. The power of prejudices and preconceived notions about the respective other culture motivates her to deal with them also in her artistic work and to subtly question these aspects. Manuela Sambo lives and works in Berlin.
