Menekşe Toprak

Menekşe Toprak is a writer, translator and radio journalist. She lives in Istanbul and Berlin and writes short stories and novels. Her short story Valizdeki Mektup (Der Brief im Koffer) was published in 2007, Hangi Dildedir Aşk (In What Language is Love) in 2009, and her debut novel Temmuz Çocukları in 2011. Most recently, she published the novel Ağıtın Sonu (The End of the Lament) in 2014. She also worked especially in the field of literary translation. She has translated works by Arseni Tarkovski, Zafer Șenocak, Ralf Thenior and Akif Pirinçci into Turkish since 1999. She opened up the German-speaking world to Turkish stories of the 20th century (2008) for an anthology published by Suhrkamp Verlag and the story Der Brief im Koffer (The Letter in the Suitcase) for the culture and society magazine freitext. Her stories have also been translated into English and French, and in 2014 her debut novel Temmuz Çocukları will be published in Italy.
