Michi Muchina

Michaela Muchina studied stage and costume design at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and visual communication at the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design. She was a master class student with Peter Schubert and did freelance assistance work at the Festspielhaus Afrika gGmbH, Komische Oper Berlin, the Residence Theatre in Munich, amongst other spaces. Since 2010 she has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer. She implemented stage design at the Deutsches Theater, Studio Я – Maxim Gorki Theatre, Junges Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, Theater Konstanz, Saint. Petersburg Conservatory and TD Berlin, amongst other spaces, and for various short films by Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau. Her freelance work presents the interface between stage design and spatial interventions by using performative objects and video work. Since 2008 she has been working closely with the Brazilian performance artist Nathalie Fari and with the Russian video artist Tanya Akhmetgalieva. Performances and video installations have since been shown at the Verbo Performance Art Festival (São Paulo), Festival Internacional de Teatro (São José do Rio Preto), Halle 6 (Munich), MMOMA and Triumph Gallery (Moscow), FLAM 4 (Amsterdam), CA‘ FOSCARI ZATTERE (Venice), Brazilian Embassy Berlin and galerie OPEN (Berlin), KACHI Galerie and the Manege (St. Petersburg).
