Naima Maleika is a filmmaker and photographer based in Berlin. Of German–South African heritage, she works with social and environmental organizations, cultural institutions and artists. Her practice is based on a documentary approach — observing rather than staging, listening before directing. After early years as an actor and assistant director, and two years as production manager at the renowned South African documentary company STEPS, she has been working as a freelance filmmaker and photographer since 2018. Whether documenting a dance performance, a cultural event or a social impact project, her aim is always the same: to tell truthful, visually compelling stories that support the long-term visibility of the work shown. Most recently, she produces the video images for Arrival of the Village (2026) at Ballhaus Naunynstraße.
