Sarah Ama Duah

Sarah Ama Duah is a German-Ghanaian artist based in Berlin. She studied Fashiondesign at HAW Hamburg and Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), specializing in Performance and Sculpture.

Duah’s multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, performance, dress, and the body. Building narrative with a figurative approach is characteristic to her works. Duah practices sculptural appreciation, understood as form and potential to explore and materialize the intersections between grand historical narratives and Afro-diasporic biographies, including her own family history. Her artistic language is shaped by her background in Fashiondesign and a strong interest in material processes. Through material-oriented artistic research her in-depth engagement with: wax, plaster, silicone, latex allows Duah to merge her craft based fashion knowledge with sculptural methods, artistically examining processes of assimilation, fragmentation and resistance. Her practice seeks to materialize reflections, creating tangible artistic scenarios and figurative objects to visualize and contribute to Afro-diasporic memory culture, exploring and articulating how Afro-diasporic identities navigate, resist, and reshape space.
