Silvia Ospina was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia. She started her dance studies at the Escuela Departamental de Ballet de Santander and continued them in France (CNDC, Angers) and in Germany (Folkwang Hochschule/Pina Bausch, Essen). After finishing her studies in Visual and Media Arts she worked with different choreographers and quickly started to work on her own projects, starting to research in her movement vocabulary and explore her visual imaginary. For ten years, she has been working as an independent choreographer and director, creating different pieces for stage, film performance and video formats. During all these years, she participated in several exhibitions for dance and film/video festivals. Next to her work as choreographer and director, she conducted the Movement Laboratory for the Physical Theater and Acting Department at the Folkwang University of Arts. For seven years she has lead the movement program offered to the students and teaches herself movement training, improvisation and composition.
