Yara Haskiel (*1982) is a video artist and researcher. She studied experimental film, visual arts and media at the University of the Arts Berlin and Hamburg. Her works explore the relationship between memory and socio-political issues from a micro-political perspective. Yara Haskiel’s video essays question the notion of identity and forms of belonging. At the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona (MACBA), she was part of the Independent Studies Program (PEI) and years earlier at kanak attak. In collaboration with Janine Jembere, she led several video workshops and performative pieces such as FEMALE GAZE with the akademie der autodidakten at Ballhaus Naunynstraße. Currently Yara Haskiel lives and works in Berlin and Thessaloniki.
