A dance project by Grupo Oito
Dance for Sale examines the spaces between the public and the private space, between the logic of subsidies and the market. The performance piece focuses on dance as a product and the “business of art”. Where is dance located in this? Who decides what is presented? What are the stages a dance piece needs to undergo before it is presented to the public?
Since 2006 the independent dance collective Grupo Oito have been exploring the relationship between the individual and society in their projects. Inspired by everyday life, “identities” provide a point of reference in this. As part of a collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Kenya, the group visited Nairobi in June 2015 for a workshop and two performances and together with Kenyan dancers developed a new version of the dance piece which they will now also present at Ballhaus.
Produced by Kultursprünge at Ballhaus Naunynstraße gemeinnützige GmbH in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Kenya. Funded by the Berlin Senate Chancellery ‒ Cultural Affairs.
