DER LEHRER UND DER DERWISCH
A dramatic reading with music
On the mystic path of love he is prepared to die before he dies.
When a student in religious class confronts him with the simple question, whether he even believes in what he teaches, he has no words. He sees his salvation in the Sufi master Yussef. Christian is willing to sacrifice his marriage and his job for the deep friendship with him.
The dramatic reading Der Lehrer und der Derwisch (The Teacher and the Dervish) is inspired by the biography of the Persian poet Maulana Dschalal ad-din Rumi, who lived in medieval times in Konya, now Turkey. The Sufi master is one of the most significant Islamic mystics who expressed his grief over the loss of his friend Schams-e Tabrizi in verses.
