Choreocinema: movement in film

The February issue of In-between Performative Films presents works of film experimenting with performative and choreographic elements. Both the film Nomaden by Silvia Ospina and Ciudadana by Llaima Suwani approach their subject by employing choreographic sequences of movement in their own respective way. In a very free interpretation, the director of Ciudadana focuses on the Puerto Rican activist for independence Dolores “Lolita” Lepron.

In Nomaden, Silvia Ospina discusses the feeling of placelessness in the urban space and negotiates this using a choreography developed specifically for the camera’s gaze.

The film series In-between Performative Films focuses on artists situated outside of patriarchal, white and national conditions of production and funding.
