JUSTICE REPAIRS ALL CRIMES
Lecture by Prof. Verene A. Shepherd
The history of the Caribbean is characterized by historic tragedies and inhuman acts that have left deep scars in the region and in the souls of its inhabitants. These acts were committed by the European invaders and colonialists who brutalized the indigenous peoples and abducted Africans. The historic evidence of these acts and their consequences as well as the conviction that these acts were in violation of any kind of ethics and law and continue to affect the development of the region provide the basis for the entitlement to reparations.
Is economic development even possible without reparations? This is the question Prof. Verene A. Shepherd, social historian and director of the Centre for Reparation Research at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, will explore in her lecture.
