Pan-African Groove Collective

Opening Concert

The PanAfrican Groove Collective mixes afrobeat, highlife, R&B, Mbalax, and jazz and is the groovy outcome of the music project »1884«. In their music, the band of eight critically engages with the historic events of colonialism and relates the big and the small, the political and personal repercussions which the division of the continent continues to have for millions of people in Africa today. The musicians remember those who stood up for the liberation of African nations, correct western perspectives on Africa, and comment on the European border policies. At the same time, the group cites the sound of internationally renowned African and African Diaspora musicians of the 1970’s and 80’s, such as Fela Kuti and Bob Marley, who dealt with issues of (post)colonialism, independence and self-determination, as well as the sound of the South African anti-apartheid movement.

Following the concert you’re invited to our opening party!
