Theater Prize of the Federal Government 2023 goes to the Ballhaus Naunynstraße: 10 Years of Black Perspectives at Ballhaus Naunynstraße
October 21, 2023
We’re celebrating! We’re celebrating twice!
We wanted to celebrate our anniversary: For ten years now, since the Black Lux Festival – a celebration of Black perspectives, Black artists have been influencing discussions, politics, and everyday life from the stage of Ballhaus Naunynstraße. That’s what we wanted to celebrate. And now we have been awarded for this very work! The Theater Prize of the Federal Government 2023 goes to Ballhaus Naunynstraße. We’re celebrating twice – and DJs and sound artists like Black Cracker, Sky Deep, Ford Kelly, Pam Bam, and AVA Irandoost will create the beat to dance, the rhythm of this celebration, the soundtrack to this night!
We’re celebrating twice, thrice, fourfold!
Because with the ten years of Black Perspectives at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, we are also celebrating the sixth edition of the biennial festival Black Berlin Black, this time under the title United Polyphonic – following Resistance (2023), Postcolonial Poly Perspectives (2019), Republic Repair – Ten Points, Ten Demands, One Festival; Reparatory Imaginings from Black Berlin (2017), We are Tomorrow – Visions and Memories on the Occasion of the Berlin Conference of 1884 (2015), Black Lux – A Homecoming Celebration from Black Perspectives (2013).
And we’re celebrating you, with you: Companions, artists from the very beginning and of current productions, spectators, thinkers, fellow fighters. Because without you, there is no theater, no Ballhaus Naunynstraße, no party, and no courage to keep going. It’s the power of meeting and coming together that defines theater. So, let’s celebrate! United Polyphonic!
