PEPPERPOT

Podium-Jam Session, moderiert von Maisha Maureen Auma

Pepperpot, sweet, hot, a mix of different meats, the stew created by the indigenous peoples of Guyana is associated with celebration and family. Here, at Republik Repair, it is a panel jam session of music, poetry, interviews, sound collage and visual art on the issue of a sustainable public health service.

Pepperpot addresses one of the major demands of the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Action Plan for Reparations and adapts it to the local context. Pepperpot asks its contributors and the audience: how healthy could we all be if the medical community recognized the special experiences of Black people and, more generally speaking, if it took greater account of the social, intersectional pressure as well as recognizing and working with different notions of body, health and beauty?

Pepperpot doesn’t stick to traditional discussion formats and brings mind and body into balance through art, exchange and experience.

Featuring MelodyMakeda (Movement Happenings), Peggy Piesche (Gunda-Werner Institut / Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung), Stefanie Lahya Aukange (One World Poetry Night), Melody LaVerne-Bettencourt (visual artist), Eben Louw (Reach Out), Zen Jefferson (dancer and podcaster: An Hour of Power)
