01.06.2019 20:00 PANEL: BUNA HOUR / KITCHEN TABLE
Das Panel findet auf Englisch statt. // The panel discussion will be held in English.
Buna Hour / Kitchen Table is the first of a four-part series of discussions on discursive and artistic strategies of decolonizing everyday life, its objects and their related practices. The series is a forum for diverse voices and forms of knowledge, for practices of action and listening, as well as for forms of self-articulation.
The first edition is dedicated to food and nourishment as means of individual and collective resistance and wellbeing within a global system of production and consumption that is frequently determined by industrial manufacturing, land grabbing, greenwashing and social exploitation.
How can we comprehend daily routines that are informed by countless pre-, post-, neo- or decolonial factors and can therefore equally be a source of violence and oppression and of resistance and pleasure, and how can we shape them for us and our goals?
Inspired by the Ethiopian practice of buna ‒ a place where households and communities come together for one to two hours to drink coffee and discuss everyday matters ‒ and making reference to the kitchen table as a place for discussion, liberation and healing, Buna Hour / Kitchen Table invites its guests to engage in a polyphonic exchange of perspectives. Moderator Sinthujan Varatharajah, videographer and founder of My African Food Map Tuleka Prah, philosopher and co-author of Aphro-ism Syl Ko, performance artist Dafna Maimon, as well as the food concept developer Kavita Meelu come together to make the complex meanings of food in our everyday lives visible.
