Omar Sherif
Omar Sherif is an interdisciplinary artist, scenographer, and architect. Born in Cairo, Omar found a new home in Berlin and, after completing a master’s degree in scenography, now works as an art director and stage designer on various projects in film, theater, performance, and editorial. Omar explores themes such as identity, space, queerness, migration, and much more. While still in Egypt, Omar worked in directing, stage design, and as an operational manager in NGOs.
Omar’s work is characterized by a deep interest in interactive storytelling and the transformative potential of spaces. The result is immersive experiences that take the audience on a journey. Theater offers Omar the scope and opportunity to explore these experiences and stage the different layers of the story in space.
At Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Omar participated in the theater workshop Extended Cooperation, financed by the prize money from the 2023 Theaterpreis des Bundes, and created the stage design for the resulting play Your Baggage Unattended (2025, aka Extended Cooperation Vol. II). Immediately afterwards, he developed the stage design for Lerato Shadi’s performance Unfolding the Sky (2025).
