Qudus Onikeku

Qudus Onikeku is the Founder and Artistic director of YK Projects Paris and The QDance Center Lagos, he is one of the preeminent young generation choreographers working today. Qudus was born and grew up in Surulere Lagos, for the past 10 years he has shuffled his time between Lagos, Paris and touring the world. He graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieur des Arts du Cirque, France in 2009.

With renowned works like Lost Face (2006), Do we need cola cola to dance (2008), My Exile is in my Head (2010), We Dance We Pray (2011), STILL/life (2012), Feeling Station (2012), Flash and Qaddish in 2013, Qudus has been recognized as an authority in the global dance scene, known across Africa, in Europe, Asia, and in the Americas. He has been an associate artiste to various theatres in Europe and the United States, and has since received several awards for the recognition of his dynamic input to the dance world.

He was named the Dancer of the Year in The FUTURE AWARDS 2009, nominated as the Young Person of the Year in the same award in 2010. He was the Laureate of the solo prize in the Africa-wide Danse l’Afrique danse 2010 in Bamako. He was short listed for TED Global Fellow in 2011, and named „The New Choreographic Talent“ in France for 2012. In 2013, he was named a „Visiting Professor“ at the school of theatre and dance, University of California. Davis. Presently Qudus is spending more time in Lagos to develop various projects starting with the QDanceCenter Lagos.
