Yama Tessa Hart

Yama Tessa Hart is a cultural wanderer/transformer* and has lived artistic-cultural practice for 20 years as empowering, intersectional, power-critical and anti-discriminatory processes beyond conventional career categories. Hart’s work encompasses performing arts, film, community and cultural education, as well as artistic, facilitative, organisational and research activities. Dey writes poetry, prose, essays, non-fiction and performance texts – with performances since 2014 in London and Berlin, publications since 2018 in eight anthologies to date, and children’s books from 2026 onwards.

Key milestones include the founding, artistic directorship and management of the Bread & Roses Theatre in London (2012–2022), as well as project and artistic direction of AfroPolitan Berlin (2020–2024). Since 2013, Hart has realised over 20 productions with Goblin Baby Co. and works curatorially, including at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival and FRATZ International. At Ballhaus Naunynstraße Yama Tessa Hart works as a dramaturg for the production Arrival of the Village (2026), before Hart was part of the networking event Ganz vorn – ein Treffen Schwarzer Menschen in Leitungspositionen (2023).
