THUS GOD CREATED THE COW
Mass protests are sweeping through the streets of an Iranian town. An old watchmaker is sitting bent over his clockwork. The difficulties of living in this country and the turmoil of opposition politics have worn him out. He watches the political events unfolding outside through the shop window. His only customer is a swift young man whose charm and eloquence bring a new rhythm into the old man´s life and involve him in grotesque conversations about time and society. The young man is fascinated by the precious clocks that he can´t afford, and he suggests a gamble. How the two carefully approach each other behind the masks of Persian politeness and political distrust turns into an existential struggle about limits no longer respected by the regime.
If you live in Iran, you can withdraw into your private life as much as you like. The system will get you involved in the political events without you being able to escape. First and foremost because the regime is terribly afraid of the people. (Abbas Maroufi)
