On the 19th of January 2007 the Armenian journalist Hrant Dink was murdered. A few weeks earlier he was indirectly threatened with it when he appeared in a talkshow aired on private Turkish television. Subject of this talkshow was the article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code making it illegal to „denigrate Turkishness“.

Five artists take this talkshow as a source for personal examination of faultlines within the Turkish society and ask questions about publicness, the ability for tolerance and the freedom of opinion that concern us all.

With her video work DEEP SEA FISH the fine artist Silvina Der-Meguerditchian wants to highlight hidden layers of former Istanbul life. Within snapshots of the talkshow the filmmaker Züli Aladağ is looking for the weak spot of a country and addresses with the AGHET one of his biggest taboos. In THE TV NEXT DOOR the theatre director Hans-Werner Kroesinger examines what it would mean if Hrant Dink’s claim for a right of criticism would be transferred to our home, in the flat of our neighbour and what if speaking publicly makes a man a target. In mind Mıraz Bezar brings together all protagonists of the murder. With SPIEGELUNGEN (REFECTIONS) he focuses on the observers of the event. Theatre and filmmaker Hakan Savaş Mican directs the project REACHING THE LEVEL OF CONTEMPORARY CIVILISATION 2, that deals with the national longing for a pure Turkish auto brand. An intellectual game about Ersoy the first Turkish car and its wanderings through the lost towns and streets of Anatolia.
