Would you enter a space in which you would have to give up control? To let go. Simply let go. And be allowed to dream … but of what, exactly? For what purpose? And above all: with what kind of power?
Society wants us to be rational and full of self-control. Every minute is meant to be scheduled, planned and fully utilised. At times, this makes us afraid to dream, and to allow all the complex emotions this entails. So where do we find the energy to make art, to develop political visions and to imagine the “impossible”?
In Weaving Dreams, a group of young adults takes up these questions and sets out to explore the possibilities of dreaming, taking the time to experiment and to articulate political visions. Under the facilitation of actor Sisi Bo’wale, the participants of the akademie der autodidakten engaged with dreaming as a political practice. This practice is by no means new, as Black communities and Communities of Colour have often drawn upon it, particularly in times of unrest, fear or horror. The result is a performance that takes us on a journey into the universe of the unconscious. Here, they offer us their own vocabulary of the imaginary, while also inviting us – with curiosity and trust – to enter the space with them. And to keep building.
