Nasheeka Nedsreal
Nasheeka Nedsreal is a multidisciplinary artist, dancer and choreographer from Louisiana. Exploring subjects related to identity, ritual, play, improvisation and futurism.
In 2014, Nasheeka co-founded Soul Sisters Berlin, a collective dedicated to connecting Black women throughout Berlin and Germany. In the frame of the festival Republik Repair Ballhaus Naunynstraße, this collective performed its first piece entitled Mirror Mirror (2017), which she co-directed. From 2017-2021, she performed with the Berlin-based dance collective Grupo Oito, making their premiere in the performance, Unrestricted Contact at Ballhaus Naunynstraße.
Since 2018, she has worked with choreographer Trajal Harrell and is a current member of the Schauspielhaus Zurich Dance Ensemble under his direction. Continuing her work at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, she premiered her first full-length solo work entitled New Growth during the festival Postcolonial Poly Perspectives in 2019 and worked additionally as a dramaturg for the performance series An object is an object is what (2019). Junctions (2022) was her first choreography for six dancers. Nasheeka has worked with many esteemed artists and choreographers throughout her career. Her extensive work has been shown at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Kampnagel, Sophiensaele, Theater o.N, Ada Studio, Sadler’s Wells and many others. In late 2023, her performance, Flip Flop, (2022) was awarded the Berlin Ikaruspreis for children’s theatre. Most recently, she developed a new solo entitled NuReal Dust, which premiered and opened Tanztage 2024 at Sophiensaele. She is a recent resident of Black Rock Senegal and currently touring with choreographers Ligia Lewis, Jeremy Nedd and Trajal Harrell.
